Vistancia is Not the Right Location for Amkor

Should CHIPS Act Funds be used to locate manufacturing in residential developments?
Especially when there are industrial development/mixed-use options such as Halo Vista or the Peoria Innovation Core that make better sense.
I support Arizona’s quest to become a key technology hub. The investments being made will help the United States become stronger. The vision, planning, and coordination to create a technology hub around the TSMC manufacturing plant is smart. What is not smart is an adjacent city trying to grab a piece of the pie by dropping factories into neighborhoods.
Amkor is pursuing the Vistancia site location for its manufacturing plant mainly because of the over-the-top concessions made by the city of Peoria, AZ., and the Vistancia Corporation. Amkor is looking at its bottom line and how the gifts of 50 acres and millions of gallons of water will help its profitability.
Amkor and Hyperion don’t belong in the Vistancia community. The people who chose to live here did so with the understanding that new development would be focused on community amenities, not industry.
When we moved to Vistancia, we understood this to be the future:
“Five North will serve as the crown jewel of Vistancia’s development, blending luxury living with world-class amenities. The community promises best in class living, dining, shopping, and entertainment options, reflecting Vistancia’s high standards for excellence. From high-density residential units to a main street retail corridor, this development is designed to offer residents and visitors a seamless connection between all the things they need for a vibrant, fulfilling lifestyle.” (https://theravenscroftgroup.com/blog/five-north-vistancia-luxury-living-retail-destination-peoria)
Amkor, McDonalds, and Hyperion are not “world-class amenities” or “Best-in-class” living, dining, shopping…”
There is another master-planned development 8 miles down the 303 called Halo Vista. Halo Vista is the 2,400 acres surrounding TSMC and is being designed from the ground up to include industry. This is where Amkor and Hyperion belong. Amkor has an MOU (https://ir.amkor.com/news-releases/news-release-details/amkor-and-tsmc-expand-partnership-and-collaborate-advanced) in place with TSMC and is focused on processing chips from TSMC. The Amkor facility should be near TSMC, not in a master-planned RESIDENTIAL community.
Anyone from Vistancia who wants one of the jobs at Amkor can drive eight miles down the 303 to the technology hub. It is an easy commute.
Amkor, Halo Vista is awaiting you with open arms!
